Mendip Ring +

Beacon Batch, Black Down, Tynings Farm, Rowberrow Bottom. 9.5 Miles

This walk starts at the Top Car park at Burrington Combe. Start point Grid Ref ST 489581. The walk follows the Mendip Ring over Beacon Batch and on to Black Rock before following the Mendip Way through Tyning's Farm and on past Holloway Rocks to Rowberrow Bottom then on to join the Limestone Link following this path back to the car park. On a clear day the views from Beacon Batch are well worth the climb.

1.
From the car park, with your back to the road follow the path through the woods to the right to reach the road again cross over and follow the path onto Blackdown now follow the track to reach the cairn on top of Beacon Batch. The highest point on the Mendips. On reaching the cairn turn left and follow the path towards the radio aerials in the distance, on reaching a gate into an enclosed path go through this then take the first path on the right and follow it down through a small combe to reach a lane, cross this slightly to the right and continue following the path downhill to reach Velvet bottom.

On reaching the junction at Velvet bottom turn right passing through the gate (if you wish to see Black Rock turn left and follow the path for a short distance to reach said Rock) Once through the gate turn right, you're on the Mendip Way, now follow this passing Charterhouse Farm continuing on to reach Warrens Hill Road, turn right to reach Tyning’s Farm. Having entered the farm take the first turning left and follow the path across a junction of paths to soon take a smaller path downhill to the left (Still the Mendip Way) follow this path crossing the stream at the bottom of the high, now follow the path through the valley passing Holloway Rocks through Rowberrow Bottom and on to reach a T junction below Dolebury Warren. Here turn right and follow the path to reach the Limestone Link at Hill Farm, from here follow the path back to join the route you took up to Beacon Batch. Having rejoined this path turn left to reach the road now follow the path back through the woods to reach the car park.
