Mendip Ring +

Mendip Ring Circular. East Woodlands, Lane End, Rodden. 10 Miles

This walk starts at East Woodlands Church, Grid Ref. 790441. The walk takes you round the permissive path at High House Farm and on to Lanes End it then follows the Mendip Ring to Heath House Farm and on to Chapmanslade. Returning to East woodlands via Lye's Green and Friggle Street. There are some beautiful views on this walk.

1.
With your back to the Church walk to the lane turn right and follow Shepherd's Lane, over the crossroads, pass Cole Hill and Shepherd's Wood then on reaching the bridleway on your right turn down here and on reaching the river at the bottom take the permissive path on your left. Follow this path which follows the river to eventually reach Mill Lane. Turn right cross the bridge over the ford and continue uphill to reach Lane End and the A362. Cross over into the lane opposite and take the first path on your left. Follow the hedge line to cross the stile at the bottom of the field then slightly left to cross another stile in the next hedge line. Now turn half left to exit the field via a gate, back onto the A362, turn right and follow the road to reach the track on the right Joles Lane.

Follow this lane until you reach an electronic gateway with a cattle grid leading to Frith House, cross the stile and bare half right aiming for a kissing gate at the bottom of the field, now follow the left hand field edge of the next field to reach a gate at the bottom left hand corner of this field, follow the path over the bridge into the next field. Follow the path straight up the field passing Heath House Farm off to your left, bearing slightly to your right to cross a stile taking you onto a lane. Turn right along the lane and follow it out to reach the road at Chapmanslade. Turn right along the road and take the first path on your right signed Corsley Church, follow this bridleway come sunken lane down to Huntenhull Green.

Turn right along the lane and take the second path on the left crossing the fields to reach the lane again, turn left crossing the River Rodden and onto Corsley Mill, follow the path through the mill into the fields and at the junction of paths take the bridleway on the left follow this to enter a track via a field gate, where the path forks bear right along a small stream which runs down the path follow this path uphill to reach Lye's Green. Turn right following the road pass the junction then take the first path on the left, follow this path and on reaching the junction of paths, take the left hand path uphill to reach Corsley Heath. Follow the road to the right passing through the village to reach the A362 again.

Turn left along the road and take the first path on the right down to the lane at the bottom, turn right along the lane, then take the first turning on the left, at the sharp bend on the left, take the path off to the right to reach the lane at Warden's Farm. Turn left and follow the lane round to reach High House Farm, Here you can't follow the line of the path, so here are directions to find your way through. Turn left heading towards the farmhouse then take the first right then the next right down to a farmgate on your left pass through this and follow the track down to where you crossed it on the Mendip Ring earlier on your way out. Turn left into the field then right to go uphill towards Elliotts Farm through a farmgate at the top and onto a lane. Cross the lane to reach Friggle Street Farm on your left take the footpath on your left and follow the hedge line through the field into the next field, then follow the hedge line on the right. On reaching a junction of paths halfway across this field, turn left and follow the path out to reach a lane, continue up the lane to emerge opposite the pub, cross the lane and take the path opposite up the side of the pub to reach another lane, Turn left and follow the lane back to East Woodlands Church.
